The Hunqapillar is a touring bike-for road or trail. Like all of our bikes, the Hunqapillar is hand-made of fine, lugged steel, and uses our own quite expensive and fine investment-cast fittings. (Not a jab at welded bikes, just a fact.) But still-the Hunqapillar is extremely labor-intensive bike by any standards, you pay more for it than you will for a welded bike. Our most extravagant, screw-the-expense bike was the off-roady Bombadil, and the Hunqapillar is a budgetated version of that bike-only slightly short-cutted to make it a lot more affordable and barely less heavy duty than it’s much more expensive big brother. We figure Grant has spent lots of time thinking about this and we don't wanna get cute.īike had very low miles to begin with and we have only test ridden around a block since the build. We played it by the book and built a classic Rivendell. There were some other build issues, so we started from scratch. Also, with that small chain wheel, you could never really get going and would 'spin out' really early. Even with those substantial concessions, the chain had an unacceptable amount of slop. As it has vertical drop-outs, the chain spacing was addressed with a VO crank with a tiny chainring (I think it was a 34t) and a chain half link. This bike arrived built as a Nexus hub city bike. More detailed paint work than current models. There are some tiny paint scratches here and there but the frame looks new. Rare to find a used Rivendell for sale in near new condition.
